About laminate flooring

Such a popular floor covering as laminate today was first introduced to the consumer more than a quarter of a century ago. Over these 25 years, it has seriously changed and acquired those qualitative characteristics, thanks to which it has become wildly popular among professionals and consumers. How to choose the right laminate coating, its advantages and disadvantages, the rules and methods of installation, as well as the features of care will be considered below.

Types of laminate

Based on the coating material, the following types are distinguished:

Standard laminate flooring.

The most popular type of laminate, which is found most often in homes and commercial premises. This coating imitates parquet, but it is much cheaper. The decorative layer of such a laminate is made on a paper basis, on which a drawing with an imitation of wood or other natural materials is applied. On top of the decorative layer is covered with a special protective layer, which eliminates the deformation of the board under the influence of various loads.

Cork laminate.

A very comfortable option, it is characterized by the softness, porosity of the coating, which perfectly retains heat, while not accumulating static electricity and has good sound-absorbing properties. The noble cork coating gives additional comfort to the room, however, it is characterized by a high cost, it is absolutely not moisture-resistant and requires laying a waterproofing substrate before installation and processing with moisture-resistant compounds after.

Vinyl laminate flooring.

It is based on vinyl, which is characterized by ideal moisture resistance, flexibility and ease of installation. Due to these characteristics, vinyl laminate or PVC boards can be laid in rooms with a high level of humidity, such as a bathroom, kitchen, etc.

Quartz-vinyl laminate.

Externally, it is similar to vinyl, it is highly resistant to abrasion and fading, fire resistance, a huge variety of design solutions. Such a coating is easy and quick to install, it is unpretentious in cleaning, it does not deform under the influence of high temperatures. Environmental friendliness is another serious advantage of quartz-vinyl laminate.

3D laminate flooring.

This type of laminate began to be produced quite recently-less than 10 years ago. This coating with a three-dimensional image or inscription stands out with an interesting appearance.

Classification of laminate flooring

The class is understood as the expected wear resistance of a particular laminate sample. This indicator is inherent in each type of such coverage. The class designation consists of two digits, where the first is the area of application, and the second is the degree of load and passability of the room. Laminate flooring for residential areas has a classification from 21 to 23. Coverage for commercial premises - from 31 to 34.

  • The 21st class of laminate is suitable for rooms with a small passability, for example, an office or a bedroom.
  • The 22 class of laminate provides an average passability, as in the living room or children's room.
  • The 23rd class of laminate is designed for living rooms with a heavy load and passability. This laminate is good for the corridor.
  • The 31 class of laminate is suitable for commercial space with a small load, for example, a small office space.
  • The 32 class of laminate withstands average cross-country traffic. This option is ideal for a reception room in the office.
  • The 33 class of laminate is designed for surfaces with a serious load and high cross-country traffic, which happens in supermarkets.
  • The 34 class of laminate can withstand the load even in industrial premises.

When choosing a class of laminating coating for the home, you should know that the coating provided for commercial premises behaves perfectly at home. By laying such a laminate in a house or apartment, you will significantly prolong the life of your floor.

According to experts, the most popular and ideal laminate for home use is 32 classes. If it will last 3-5 years in the office, then at home it will last at least 10. Laminate of the 31st class at home will withstand a period of 8-10 years, while 33 classes – 15-20 years. Also keep in mind that the higher the coverage class, the higher its price.
